Fondant

My husband and I have made 3 cakes now using fondant. It is so cool and makes a great looking cake. It is also very easy to make yourself. And this recipe tastes pretty good considering it's fondant. We have our daughter's first birthday cake, our son's second birthday and then his 3rd birthday. Basically I make all the cake and frosting and fondant and then my husband is amazing at building it all and decorating so the cake looks like something. We are a good team when it comes to birthday cakes.
Here is a great link with pictures and all. It's what I've used for all the times I've made fondant.

Ingredients

1 bag of mini marshmallows (16 oz bag I think)
2 lbs. powdered sugar (7 cups)
2-5 tbsp. water
Crisco

Put marshmallows in bowl and add a few tablespoons of water. Put in microwave in 30 second intervals. Stir in between until all marshmallows are melted.

Grease counter top really good with Crisco. Dump half your powdered sugar into bowl on top of the marshmallows. Then dump it out onto the counter and put the rest of the powdered sugar on top of the marshmallows.

Start gathering it all together with very well greased hands. It will be really sticky but keep at it and it will eventually come together and not be so sticky. Add more powdered sugar if it is too sticky and more water if it is too dry. Also keep the counter top and your hands well greased.

Once you have it all kneaded into a nice ball, wrap in plastic wrap and put in a plastic bag and let it sit on the counter top over night. Roll it out when ready to use. You can also knead color into it but use the paste kind, not liquid.
