Chili

This is my go to easy chili recipe. I love it and it always comes out so yummy and I can have dinner on the table in an hour with homemade chili and homemade cornbread. Great meal for a rainy cold day. (Not such a great picture when it gets dark before dinner time.)
Ingredients

1 lb. ground beef or turkey
1 can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can tomato sauce
1 tbsp. chili powder
3/4 tsp. cumin
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 can kidney beans
1 can pinto beans

additional ingredients: 1 medium onion, chopped and 1 clove garlic, finely chopped

1. Cook meat (and onion and garlic if you are adding it, I usually don't but sometimes if I have it on hand I will, comes out great without it though) in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is brown; drain.

2. Stir in remaining ingredients except beans. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

3. Stir in beans. Heat to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until desired thickness.

4. Serve with shredded cheese on top and with some hot homemade cornbread.
