Hot Chocolate

Hot chocolate from scratch is so easy and so good. My mom used to always make it growing up and now I have started making it for my family. I love it for breakfast with some yummy homemade toast. I had made cinnamon bread the day before so we had that toasted with butter and our hot chocolate for breakfast yesterday. What a great way to start our morning! Recipe from Hershey.
Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
  • Dash salt
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 4 cups (1 qt.) milk
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Miniature marshmallows or sweetened whipped cream(optional)

Directions:

1. Stir together sugar, cocoa and salt in medium saucepan; stir in water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil and stir 2 minutes. Add milk; stirring constantly, heat to serving temperature. Do Not Boil.

2 Remove from heat; add vanilla. Beat with rotary beater or whisk until foamy. Serve topped with marshmallows or whipped cream, if desired. Five 8-oz. servings.
My husband doesn't like hot chocolate so just me and my son drink it. So the leftovers I just put in a jar and heat up the next day. It works great for us.

Another tip is I pour out my son's pretty soon after I add the milk. That way it isn't too hot and he doesn't have to wait for it to cool down.

I also add less sugar and more cocoa. I like it rich!
