Orange-Chocolate Chip Cookies

These were interesting cookies. They weren't gross but just kind of weird. I liked them a lot better once they were totally cooled and the chocolate chips were hard.

Orange-Chocolate Chip Cookies

Makes 2-3 dozen cookies

1/2 cup shortening
3 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon grated orange rind
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Combine shortening, cream cheese, sugar and egg in a large bowl; beat until smooth and creamy. Add vanilla and orange rind; beat well.

Combine flour and salt; add to creamed mixture, beating well. Stir in chocolate chips.

Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350F for 15 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Cool on wire racks.
